ABOUT THE PROJECT

Background

The Donate Blood app is a groundbreaking mobile platform developed to connect people in urgent need of blood transfusions with volunteer donors in real-time. The app was created by JT Design in collaboration with the Bulgarian Organization of Voluntary Blood Donation (BOVDB). Since its launch, the app has significantly improved the blood donation process, providing a modern solution to the challenges of blood shortages in medical facilities worldwide

Objective

The primary goal for the Donate Blood app was to create an intuitive, easy-to-use mobile platform that streamlines the process of finding blood donors in critical situations. By leveraging technology, the app aimed to make blood donation faster, more accessible, and more efficient, connecting hospitals, patients, and volunteers with ease. Additionally, the app sought to raise awareness of voluntary blood donation, offering a solution that helps eliminate unethical practices such as blood trading.

Approach

JT Design took a human-centered approach to develop the Donate Blood app. The design process began with in-depth research to understand the needs of patients, volunteers, and healthcare institutions. The user experience (UX) was carefully crafted to ensure that both donors and recipients could navigate the app seamlessly. The app features a real-time notification system that matches blood types and hospitals with volunteer donors. A sleek and responsive design was implemented to ensure ease of use across all mobile devices.

Deliverable

The Donate Blood project, launched in 2017, resulted in a highly effective mobile application that has saved countless lives by simplifying and accelerating the blood donation process. The app’s success is reflected in its 86%+ match rate for finding urgent blood donors and its growing user base of over 5,500 registered volunteers. The platform has received significant praise for its role in combating blood shortages and unethical blood trading, leading to widespread media attention.

Since 2018, Accedia has been responsible for the ongoing maintenance and updates of the app, ensuring optimal performance, security, and user satisfaction. Regular updates have enhanced functionality and usability, making sure the app continues to meet the needs of its users and support the life-saving mission.
